Rivendell, for "Rivendell", for The One Ring Roleplaying Game.

This was another of those tricky pictorial maps I get to make for The One Ring roleplaying game.  We'd established the look of the location in this image: Rivendell by JonHodgson   It's always fun and a challenge to convert that single view point into a useable map for players of the game.

Rivendell is also a really frustrating place to draw or paint, since in my imagination it looks a lot of different ways, and it hurts to have to pin it down to a single set of buildings with a consistent look.  Such is gaming illustration!

In the book this one had an inset 2d map at the bottom right hand side, so the work is a little looser there than otherwise it'd be.

Oh, I really love this!! The Rivendell in the movie looked nothing like what I imagined it to look like. Your version hits the nail on the head, though.

It's also difficult because you're dealing with a very iconic location, somewhere that's been depicted very well in other media, not least of which are the films.
I can imagine you will get a range of reactions to things such as this, both good and bad.
Well done.

I'm fond of isometric view (or with a slight perspective effect) and your illustration will certainly stay for long as a reference for adding colors. Line art is nice, but yours with colors are definitely awesome ;)
That will certainly push me giving a try at Artrage as well. Inexpensive (compare to PS) and the outcome is brilliant. Thanks for the info as well ;)
