i love this! i wish more people would use themselves in their work. i think it expands the horizon so much more, for both the artist and the viewer. i never used myself (except in the performance pieces i documented, until freefred and violetlove both asked me to start) and now i sneak myself into a lot of my pieces. its almost like another layer to the conversation and all art is about comminucation, so it works! this is truly swell!
I like photographing myslef in weird conditions - when I'm really tired is good. This one came out of a whole set I shot at 4 am or something crazy, when I looked really battered. Somehow that gets me past my self consciousness at using my own image.
I love the series you did with your faded/transparent self. Very cool indeed.
being tired is one good creative tool. being drunk is another (though i havent been for over two years because ive been on antibiotics.) i find i dont create much under the content or happy or satisfied flags. i know its a cliche, but a little distress seems to go a long way. i use my own image in my work because the text that usually goes along with the completed panels is done in a one sitting stream of writing dance that i do after the panels are installed and completed at my site. so since its about me, i figure i should be in there somewhere. though it took fredfree and violetlove to really push me into to being so blantant with the self image stuff.
thanks, im glad you like the fading marlon stuff. as im sure you read, it was based on a nine inch nails song that i had on repeat for about a week. when you listen to the same song over and over long enough it seems to go from being a song to a mantra to a prayer to static to a background to being reality.
