Yep, a great book. Like some literary Sarlacc pit, I've been slowly digesting it in my prodigious maw over the course of a thousand years. (OK, maybe a few weeks....) I'm really into how you let your subject take shape gradually while constantly adding texture and depth with layers of washes. As someone who is constantly second-guessing himself, that approach really resonates with me, since it allows me to sort of discover the subject as I'm working.

Oh great, sounds like you're really keying into what I wanted to do. Don't tell my commissioning editor, but if it were down to me there would have been a lot more of that - finding what you're trying to make as you make it. Sure you set out with a very clear intention, but let it happen in line with your strengths and what is happening on the canvas, Then again for a beginners book perhaps that is too advanced a concept. But I dunno, I have faith in my fellow human animals.

Thanks!

I agree - great book....I've had it for a few months now. I really like the step - by - step. I know that you are a big Painter fan - I've only tried it a few times and continue to go back to Photoshop. Maybe I'll give it another go.
Always enjoy seeing your newest creations! Thanks.

Thanks! It's great to hear people are getting something out of it! We tried to be really detailed and work in very small steps to avoid those gaps that instructional books can sometimes have -- you know the one - 1: "draw an egg for the head", 2: "fill in all the features and paint it" 3: "it's done!"

Every book will have a little of that, it's just a feature of the format, but we did our best to make the steps as small as we could.
